Kottara Samba is a red colour rice variety. This rice variety was cultivated for royal families and has several nutritional properties. The rice is rich in fibre content and also has important medicinal properties. It is rich in iron content (44 gm/kg of rice) and zinc of 21 gm per kg of rice. Calcium content of Kottara samba rice is 273 gm per kg of rice. This rice is used in the preparation of Puttu, Porridge, Kitchadi and Aapam.
