Characteristics of the grain

The color of the rice is dark brown in color and it is bold rice.

Therapeutic Properties

Used by Siddha Physicians for the treatment of filariasis.  Karunguruvai rice wards of skin diseases, urinary tract diseases, poisonous stings and promotes health. The porridge of this rice is also indicated in fevers. 


Cooking / Dishes

  • A good table variety with an earthy aroma. Normally, consumed as boiled rice.

  • Ideal for making idly, dosa. 

  • Goes well with Sambar and Rasam.

  • Can be used for Aappam preparation.
